Situated within the College of Basic and Applied Sciences at the University of Ghana, Legon, the School of Biological Sciences is a premier center for teaching and research in the life sciences. We are committed to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and understanding of the fundamental principles of life to address local and global challenges in health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. 

Our Departments

The School comprises five core departments, bringing together leading faculty and researchers: 

• Animal Biology and Conservation Science: Focusing on biodiversity, ecology, and wildlife management.
• Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology (BCMB): Investigating the molecular basis of life, genetics, and disease mechanisms.
• Marine and Fisheries Sciences: Specializing in aquatic ecosystems, fisheries, and coastal management.
• Nutrition and Food Science: Advancing food security, nutritional science, and food safety.
• Plant and Environmental Biology: Covering plant sciences, ecology, and environmental management.
